An inspirational presentation of both traditional and avant-garde calligraphy by Denis Brown.

Exploding from years of traditional studies of historical manuscripts and of the Celtic Art of his native Ireland, Denis Brown's work incorporates a contemporary art approach to communication through text. Through clear discussion, he makes this accessible to all. He will talk about a range of recent works, first emphasizing respect for traditional calligraphy, illustrated with examples of his own traditional work; then developing to modern work still using ancient materials of vellum, gold and pigments; next into his unique 3D calligraphy in glass; and an inspirational discussion of RHYTHM in calligraphy. A beautiful and conceptual series all about INK will also be presented -a distillation of calligraphy to the liquid that generates it.
The multimedia presentation will include several short movies punctuating live discussion.

Requirements:

• Digital LCD projector capable of projection from laptop (Apple Macbook) at 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, plus VGA or DVI connection cable .
• Stereo audio: amplifier plus loudspeakers plus cable to connect to mini-jack headphone port of my laptop. (Good quality PC speakers may be acceptable for small meeting rooms).
• 3-4 large trestle tables or similar for display of artwork and merchandise, and permission to sell this.
