An inspirational presentation of both traditional and avant-garde calligraphy by a modern master, Denis Brown.

Exploding from many years of traditional studies of historical manuscripts and of the Celtic Art of his native Ireland, Denis Brown's work incorporates a contemporary art approach to communication through text, and through clear discussion, he makes this accessible to all. He will talk about a range of his recent works, first showing traditional calligraphy; then developing to painterly modern work still using ancient materials of vellum, gold and pigments; next into his unique 3D layered calligraphy works in glass, and an inspirational discussion of RHYTHM in calligraphy. Finally a beautiful and conceptual series all about INK will be presented and discussed -a distillation of calligraphy to the liquid that generates it, and which pushes the boundaries of calligraphy. This multimedia presentation will include several short movies punctuating live discussion, and includes a sneak preview from his 'in-progress' DVD masterclass movie in italic techniques. Not to be missed!

Requirements:

• Digital LCD projector capable of projection from laptop (apple macbook with DVI to VGA adaptor) at 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, plus VGA or DVI connection cable .
• Stereo audio amplifier plus loudspeakers- (a home hi-fi with separate speakers can be used for this in small to medium sized rooms).
• 3-4 large trestle tables or similar for display of artwork and merchandise.
