Brause nibs & gouache on printmaking paper.

Gothic does not have to follow traditional calligraphy alphabet styles or "old english lettering". This example owes as much to an understanding of italic, and the individual dynamic of my own style is clearly apparent. A similar version was filmed live to show the speed and vigour of the strokes- click here to view it.This is a more refined version, since I didn't have to concentrate on filming at the same time as writing!

The flourished "l" was a single very fast stroke that began on the corner of the nib at far left, the smaller flourishes sport animal heads drawn on the terminals, which is a thing I do derived from Celtic influence.

The rhythm of quick upward flicks was here more valued than precisely ending strokes at the top of letters- the visible overlaps help portray the vigour of the moment of writing. The small capitals are also alive, since they were written with attitude.
