This work features my Glass etching technique- see more in the glass work section.

6 sheets of engraved 2mm glass, each spaced 5mm apart, over a unique monoprint on watercolour paper bearing shadowy images of the glass engraving, and a line of calligraphy: "a sudden change in weather caused 1,000 thoughts to flee. Without them, I saw clearly..." The quotation is my own words referring to how a crisis can focus oneself to see the solution, without the distractions that normally cloud our minds.

calligraphy detail

sgraffito calligraphy

The word 'Atmosphere' was freely handwritten into white oil paint while still wet: sgraffito with a broad nib. This and other areas of the background art were hand painted onto the monoprint.

Areas of the layers of glass were frosted with free brush marks of acid etching creams- see top left and lower right- and these areas also feature water-like droplets of clear resin spread in 3-D over the layers.

engraving detail

A mass of 3-D engraved textural lettering represents "1,000 thoughts fleeing".
